A serious crash involving a truck and motorbike on the West Gate Freeway has brought outbound traffic to a near standstill, with three out of four lanes closed for emergency response efforts.
The incident, which occurred in Spotswood on Thursday afternoon, has created delays of up to three hours stretching back to Toorak Road. Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the West Gate Freeway if possible.
Chris Miller from Transport Victoria highlighted the severity of the situation, recommending alternative routes to bypass the disruption. “If you are heading west tonight, the advice is to avoid the West Gate Freeway. Instead, use Footscray Road to Geelong Road, and you can jump on Millers Road, which will get you back on West Gate Freeway,” Miller explained.
Emergency crews are working diligently to manage the crash scene, which is expected to take several hours to clear. Ambulance Victoria reported that one individual was transported to the Royal Melbourne Hospital following the incident, which occurred around 4:25 pm.
Motorists are encouraged to exercise patience and plan ahead as emergency teams address the complex situation. Traffic monitoring systems continue to update the public, and commuters are advised to check for the latest developments before heading out.
