Rev. Chette Williams, the beloved Auburn Football Chaplain, tragically passed away in a drowning accident. Mr. Williams’ death has left the Auburn family in shock, as he was an integral figure in the lives of students, athletes, and faculty for over two decades.
A former Auburn football player under Coach Pat Dye in the 1980s, Chette Williams made a lasting impact on Auburn University, both as an athlete and as a spiritual leader. After his playing career, he felt a calling to ministry and returned to Auburn in a new capacity—as the chaplain to the football team. For 25 years, he provided spiritual guidance to the Tigers, offering prayers, counsel, and words of encouragement to the athletes who came through the program.
In addition to his work with the football team, Mr. Williams served as the Campus Director for Auburn’s chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and as the Director of Urban Ministries. Through these roles, he mentored students, built community, and provided a steady source of spiritual strength. As the President of Chette Williams Ministries, he continued his outreach, working to spread love, faith, and kindness throughout the region.
Chette Williams’ legacy goes far beyond the football field. His devotion to others, his warm smile, and his steadfast belief in the human spirit made him a pillar of strength for all who knew him. His passing is a tremendous loss to the Auburn community, but his impact will be remembered and cherished for years to come.
