Joseph Matthew Hanh Cox, 24, of Kingsport, Tennessee, left this world far too soon on Sunday, December 8, 2024, but his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Born with a heart for service and a strong sense of duty, Joseph lived a life of purpose and dedication that impacted countless lives in profound ways. A 2019 graduate of Sullivan North High School, Joseph exhibited a deep commitment to excellence and community from a young age.

After high school, he pursued higher education at Marion Military Institute, a reflection of his disciplined and driven personality. Joseph also attended the prestigious U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he prepared himself for a career in service to his country.

His dedication led him to a meaningful role in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he proudly served his nation. During his time in the Coast Guard, Joseph completed a tour overseas in Bahrain, contributing to global security efforts.

His bravery and commitment earned him several honors, including the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal.

Beyond his military service, Joseph was deeply involved in the communities where he lived. He served as a volunteer firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), showcasing his unwavering commitment to helping others in need.

Whether responding to emergencies or supporting local initiatives, Joseph’s selflessness was evident in every aspect of his life. He was known not only for his courage but also for his compassion, always offering a helping hand and a kind word to those around him.

Joseph was a beloved son, brother, nephew, and friend. His warmth, kindness, and sense of humor left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. His family, friends, and colleagues cherished his infectious energy and his ability to light up any room.
